Questions to Ask During Formal Recruitment

Formal Recruitment opens the door to lifelong friendships and meaningful experiences. As you begin preparing for recruitment, coming up with insightful questions can help you find the sorority that resonates with your values most and find where you feel most at home. In this blog post, we’ve compiled a list of questions for each round of recruitment for you to ask sisters during the process!

Philanthropy Round

The first round of Formal Recruitment, Philanthropy round, is where you learn about the charitable causes that each chapter supports. Sisters will share about their philanthropic initiatives and how they make an impact on the community. This round aims to showcase each chapter’s dedication to making a positive difference and gives you the opportunity to meet a few sisters from each chapter!

  • What are your chapter’s philanthropies?

  • How does your chapter support your philanthropy?

  • What philanthropy events does your chapter have and are there any upcoming events that you’re excited about?

  • In what ways do sorority members personally engage with philanthropy, beyond events?

  • Can you share a personal story or experience related to your involvement in the sorority’s philanthropy that has been meaningful to you?

  • In what ways do you see the sorority’s philanthropy aligning with the overall values and mission of the sisterhood?

Sisterhood Round

The second round of Formal Recruitment, Sisterhood round, is where you will explore up to five chapter’s community, sisterhood, and values. This round emphasizes showcasing the unique sisterhood and bond of each chapter and making meaningful connections through genuine conversations. The goal of this round is for you to start to get a better feel for which sorority aligns best with your personal values.

  • How does the chapter support each other?

  • What are your chapter's core values and how do sisters live out those values in their day-to-day lives?

  • What are some things that you do as a chapter?

  • What sisterhood events has your chapter held?

  • What kinds of leadership opportunities are there within your chapter?

  • How does your chapter encourage personal growth and leadership development among its members?

  • What other organizations are you and your sisters involved in on campus?

  • How does your sorority support and empower its members academically and professionally?

  • Can you tell me about a bonding experience or event that has brought your sisters closer together?

  • In what ways does your chapter support and uplift your sisters in challenging times?

  • How do sisters maintain connections and friendships beyond the structured events to create a sense of sisterhood in everyday life?

  • What are the main time commitments of your sorority?

Preference Round

The final round, Preference round, is where you will have more intimate conversations with up to two sororities. During this round, you and the sisters may share deep stories and experiences, allowing you to form deeper connections and find where you feel most at home. The goal of this round is to help you make a thoughtful and informed decision about which chapter aligns most with your values and expectations.

  • Why did you choose to join your sorority?

  • How has being in a sorority changed your college experience?

  • What has been the most meaningful experience during your time in your sorority?

  • How has being in a sorority helped you navigate or overcome experiences in your life?

  • What experiences in your sorority have had the most impact on your personal growth?

  • Who is someone in your sorority that you look up to?

Bid Day is just two weeks away! While you're preparing for recruitment, remember to keep an open mind and approach each round with an open heart. Prepare for conversations ahead of time by knowing your "why" of going through recruitment, your genuine interests and passions, what you're looking for in a sisterhood, and what questions you want to ask. You can pull questions from this blog post, and you can also ask any other questions that you want to know the answer to. We wish you the best of luck and hope you have a positive and rewarding recruitment experience!
