Hi PNMs!
I hope all of you have had an amazing Winter break and holiday season! Formal Recruitment is coming up so soon and I’m so excited for all the weekend has in store. I hope you all are getting excited to go on this journey and find your home away from home! I can’t emphasize enough how beneficial formal recruitment can be for your college experience. The process allows you to reflect on your values and find an organization that aligns with those values. Joining a sorority gives you the space to grow in all aspects of your life while forming friendships that will last a lifetime!
As I mentioned, values are at the heart of the Formal Recruitment process and sorority life as a whole. It’s important to take some time to reflect on what it is that you value and why. Panhellenic participates in a Values-Based Recruitment. This means that you are joining an organization for the people in it and the values that it upholds. Panhellenic Recruitment is not about outfits, appearances, popularity, or anything superficial. Remember to be open throughout the process. Through conversations with sisters, you may find out a lot about yourself. Maybe you thought one chapter was for you, but through the process you find yourself feeling connected to another one. That is the beauty of the process. It is truly such an amazing experience full of growth, new connections, and self-reflection. As cliche as it sounds, it’s super important to trust the process! Going in close-minded could be harmful to your recruitment journey.
Before recruitment begins, you will meet with your RC group and get the chance to discuss your values in preparation for the weekend! Linked below is the worksheet you will be going over. Feel free to take a look now ahead of time!

I know it may seem difficult to identify your values. And you may be wondering how to apply this reflection throughout the Values-Based Formal Recruitment process. Here is what some of our Recruitment Counselors had to say! I hope their experiences and advice can provide you with some helpful information!
It was really helpful for me to remember my values going through formal recruitment weekend! It can be really hard to make a decision at the end of the weekend (because all of the sororities are great) so remember what’s important to YOU and why! Then align yours with an organization <3
Find chapters where you feel they have the same values as you and where you feel most connected to their sisterhood! To do this try to start conversations about how they see their values shown in their chapter and what they do to uphold them. By starting these more meaningful conversations you also will be able to get to know each chapter and girl better! You can also be able to hear more about chapters events and the overall sisterhood through questions like these, which can help you figure out which ones you may be more interested in!
It’s important to stay true to yourself throughout the weekend. Make intentional time for self-care and reflection. Trust the process and be you!
Just be yourself! Do not feel like you need to act differently. You should run home to the place that you align with the most and which house you felt the most comfortable :)
Go in to everything with an open mind! Even if you don’t get called back to your initial favorite sororities just go into each round with hope and without bias. Just trust the process and you’ll find your home <3
When I was going through formal recruitment, I was going through a rough time. What helped me to best find my home was to think about what values I needed to help me grow and the people I felt instant support from.
I hope you enjoyed this blog post! Our chapters, RCs, and Panhellenic Council are SO excited to meet all of you and see you run home!
